Sarma (wind)
Sarma ( Russian Сарма ) is the name of a north wind on Lake Baikal . It is famous for being the coldest and strongest wind in the region. The wind speed builds up by leaps and bounds and quickly reaches hurricane strength.
history
On October 15, 1901, the worst incident to date occurred. In the evening hours, the Sarma wind pushed four ships at the Nizhneangarsk fishing base against the rocks and smashed them completely. 176 crew members of the Яков (Jacob) , Потапов (Potapov) , Могилев (Mogilev) and Шипунов (Shipunov) were killed.
