The Sasago Tunnel ( Japanese 笹 子 ト ン ネ ル , Sasago tonneru ) is a road tunnel on the toll Chūō highway in Japan. It connects the cities of Ōtsuki (district Sasago-machi) and Kōshū (district Yamato-chō) in Yamanashi prefecture .

The 4784 or 4717 m long tunnel, depending on the tube, is about 80 km west of Tokyo , consists of two tubes and was opened in 1977.

On December 2nd, 2012 there was a collapse of 150 ceiling slabs, each 1.2 tons, over a length of 50 to 60 m. There was also a fire. There were five dead and seven missing.
