Sasse (landowner)

As Sasse (also Saße , Sass or Saß ) every owner of land was referred to in the Middle Ages .

term

The medieval term relates to the word sit , its simple past is sat in the first person . Another reference is the seat of a legal person or residence . There is still z. B. in the words inmate or resident before. Furthermore, the Hasen camp is referred to as the Sasse .

Distinctions

Depending on the type of ownership , Sassen was divided into:

  • Yeoman: Owner of a Freiguts ;
  • Landsassen: large landowners and
  • Rear seats: Kotsassen (Kötter, Kossaten ), farmers.

Depending on the jurisdiction to which they were subject, they belonged to the

  • Writer: You could only be prosecuted before the then higher courts. Other prerogatives followed the prerogative of the higher jurisdiction, so that personal written residences developed with rank and dignity .

and the

  • Officials: You had to recognize the lower courts in the district as the first instance .
