A residential address is as part of a mailing address the precise local name of a building or an apartment , lives in a person permanently.
A residential address usually consists of the street , house number , postcode , town ( town ) and country . In rural communities without street names, the place name and a house number are given. In some cases, the apartment or room number or the floor , the part of the building (e.g. rear building) or a sub-tenancy ("at" or " c / o ") is also given. In Vienna in particular, it is common practice to indicate the stair number in the case of apartment blocks with several entrances (“stairs”) but with the same house number. When sending mail , the residential address also includes the postcode and, if applicable, the town or city district . Due to the increasing adoption of location information in online systems and processing with suitable software, the importance of georeferenceable addresses is increasing .
If the residential address is in a settlement , the settlement name with the house number can be given instead of the street. The form of address can differ based on the indication of the place of residence and the availability as a mail recipient .
Registration is mandatory in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . In addition, the German § 111 OWiG (wrong name specification) stipulates that a citizen must correctly provide his home address to authorized officials .
