Satan's Kingdom State Recreation Area is a Connecticut- run recreational facility located in the New Hartford community .

Surname

The area got its name from a band of outcasts from the Tunxis . They lived on theft and did not shrink from murder. Their hiding places were in the rock formations on the Farmington River . However, the area was cleared as early as 1800. The last resident (Mossock) was sentenced to prison in 1850 for the murder of an Indian.

free time activities

The property is only 1 acre and is located directly on the Farmington River. It offers access to the river and therefore many canoe, kayak and tubing tours start from there. There is also a rental shop. The route on the river extends over three rapids. Nearby are the rock formations Shelter Rock , Table Rock , and Tipping Rock .

  2. "Descriptions from the eighteenth century tell of the sort of people who were attracted to its forbidding wilds: 'Indians, Negroes, and renegade whites' claimed the area as their home turf, from which they would venture out to rob, steal, and otherwise terrorize the law-abiding local citizens. Legends say that Satan himself once claimed the area as his own, until the angel Gabriel decided the area was too idyllic and cleared out the dark lord and his band of demons. " ctmq
