Saddlebags are bags that are attached to a saddle. They are available for two-wheelers (bicycles, motorcycles) and mounts such as horses, donkeys and camels.

bicycle

The saddlebag is fixed to the bicycle saddle and / or the seat post .

The following fastening systems are common:

  • Attachment to the seat post with additional attachment to the seat stays
  • Attachment to the saddle rails by means of loops
  • Attachment to the seat stays by means of a click mechanism

Most of the time, these bags are used to transport additional equipment such as a spare tube , repair kit or additional tools on a bike tour . Larger luggage for bike tours can be transported in panniers or a bike trailer .

Luggage should be taken on horseback in saddlebags, as other transport containers, e.g. B. a heavy or half-full backpack is hardly any other gait than step (or possibly tölt ) possible. During gaits with a floating phase, the backpack develops so much of its own dynamics that the rider's rhythm and balance are impaired.

There are double-sided saddlebags that are tied to eyelets behind the saddle seat, banana bags that belong in the middle behind the saddle seat and, in the case of the western saddle, additional horn pockets on one or both sides that are hung over the horn.

There are saddle pads with sewn-on pockets for saddles without eyelets .
