Saud II. Ibn Faisal

Saud II. Ibn Faisal ( Arabic سعود بن فيصل بن تركي آل سعود, DMG Saʿūd b. Faiṣal b. Turkī Āl Saʿūd ; † 1873) was Imam of the Wahhabis (1871–1873)

Saud was a son of Faisal ibn Turki Al Saud and recognized the rule of his brother Abdallah III. ibn Faisal (1865–1871) does not. In the outbreak of civil war , he first had to withdraw to Oman , but after a victory over Abdallah's troops in 1870, he was able to gain control of Eastern Arabia. He succeeded in conquering Riyadh in 1871, with Abdallah III. but was able to flee to the Ottomans in Iraq .

When Abdallah called the Ottomans for help, they occupied the province of al-Hasa and placed it under their rule (1872). But even in Najd , the rule of Saud II was not undisputed. He had to flee Riyadh temporarily because of a riot. As the fighting with the brother Abdallah continued, the country sank increasingly into anarchy. Saud II died in 1873 of wounds sustained during a campaign against rebel tribes. This succeeded Abdallah III. ibn Faisal again the return to power.
