Saudi Press Agency

The Saudi Press Agency ( SPA ; Arabic وكالة الأنباء السعودية, DMG wakālat al-anbāʾ as-saʿūdiyya ) is the official news agency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia . It is based in Riyadh and reports to the Saudi Ministry of Information. The agency publishes daily reports in Arabic , English and French .

The ONA was founded in 1971 and 1390 AH .

The SPA is the official news agency of the Saudi government and broadcasts news from various parts of the country around the clock every day. It also publishes news about news abroad.

Management and organizational structure

The agency currently has around 500 employees, is managed by a director and is divided into the following three areas and departments:

  • editorial staff
    • bulletin
    • Branches and correspondents (the agency maintains a network of correspondents in Germany and abroad):
      • Beirut (opened around 1971 or 1390 AH): 20 reporters and employees.
      • Cairo (opened around 1972 or 1392 AH): 10 reporters and employees.
      • Sanaa (opened around 1973 or 1393 AH).
      • London (opened approx. 1976/1977 or 1397 AH): approx. 10 reporters and employees.
      • Washington, DC (opened approx. 1978/1979 or 1399 AH, but already represented by a correspondent since approx. 1976/1977 or 1397 AH): approx. 10 reporters and employees who cover both Americas.
      • Tunis (opened 1980/1981 or 1401 AH). more than 10 reporters and staff covering the whole of the Maghreb .
      • Tehran (opened around 2000 and 1421 AH).

Memberships

The SPA is a founding member of the Organization of Arab News Agencies (FANA) , the International Islamic News Agency (an institution of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation ) and the Non-Aligned News Agencies Pool . The agency also takes part in the various annual conference such as that of the news agencies of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
