Sawfish is a window manager

Sawfish (German sawfish) is a window manager for the X Window System, formerly known as Sawmill (German saw mill) . The name had to be changed by a third party due to trademark claims.

Sawfish uses a Lisp- like scripting language (librep) for its entire code base , which makes it easy to expand. It was the standard window manager of GNOME up to version number 2.1, where it was replaced by Metacity . Sawfish was popular with its users because it is very configurable. The decision of the GNOME developers to only use Metacity from now on was therefore very controversial.
