Sawirus ibn al-Muqaffa ' (Latin Severus , Greek Severos ; Arabic ساويرس بن المقفع, DMG Sāwīris b. al-Muqaffaʿ ) was a Coptic bishop of Aschmunain (50 km south of Minia in Upper Egypt) in the 10th century . He has written 26 books in Arabic and is considered the first Coptic Arabic author. He is famous for his story of the Patriarchs of Alexandria of the Copts (" Alexandrian Patriarchal History "), which was continued by many successors.
