Sayon Camara (* in Faranah in the 20th century ) is a Guinean singer . She is nicknamed "Taramakhè" (the city's agitator).

Life

Camara comes from a family with a tradition of griots . Inspired by Congolese music, especially Soukous , Camara is also and above all a legacy of Guinean songs. Camara's debut album Dinguiraye was recorded in Abidjan in 1998, the song Dinguiraye tells the story of this mythical city and the story of Alhaji ʿUmar Tall . Her second album Saramaya was released in 2002.

Camara is married to the guitarist Mamadou Lakras Cissoko from Dinguiraye , who also accompanies her musically.

Awards and honors

Sayon Camara is the first African woman to be named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2002 for helping to raise awareness of activities in the various areas of responsibility of UNESCO. The Director General of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) Kōichirō Matsuura had pronounced the appointment.
