Dinguiraye is the capital of the prefecture of Dinguiraye in the region Faranah in Guinea . It is on National Road 30. The city is known for its huge mosque in the style of the local huts, but the famous thatched roof (see photo) was replaced by a concrete dome during a renovation in the early 1990s.

The city played an important role in West African history, El Hadj Umar Tall made Dinguiraye the starting point of his jihad in the mid-19th century. It is still an important pilgrimage site for the Tijaniyya Brotherhood .

In the vicinity of the city there are extensive gold deposits that are being exploited by the Societe Miniere de Dinguiraye, and platinum, nickel and cobalt deposits have also been discovered.
