scan Messtechnik (s :: can) is an international provider of intelligent measuring devices, terminals and software for online monitoring of water quality and is considered the inventor of online spectrometry for monitoring water quality. In contrast to conventional water quality measuring devices, scan enables continuous online measurement without chemical substances. The company is based in Vienna and has five other subsidiaries in the USA , China , France , Spain and Mexico . A total of around 80 people are employed at scan worldwide.

In addition to its own branches in the USA, China, Mexico, Spain and France, scan is represented by dealers all over the world. The development, production and repair of the products takes place at the headquarters in Vienna.
technology
scan Messtechnik GmbH is considered to be the inventor of online spectrometry for monitoring water. The water quality can be measured continuously with a light beam using a spectrometer probe and then provides information on particles and substances in the water on a terminal. With the appropriate knowledge, the pollution of the water can be determined. The advantage is that scan enables continuous online measurement in real time and conventional random samples that have to be sent to the laboratory can be replaced.
Products
scan Messtechnik GmbH offers various sensors to cover the range of parameters to be measured that can occur in water. In order to be able to read the measured values, software and terminals were designed that send alarms to the operator and he can take immediate countermeasures.

history
scan Messtechnik GmbH was founded in 1999 by Andreas Weingartner in Vienna. Before that he worked as a research assistant at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. The idea of developing probes that measure water quality by means of light arose during his experimental set-up at the university. Weingartner finally succeeded in delivering a simpler, more cost-effective and, above all, non-chemical solution with which the quality of drinking water, wastewater and bodies of water can be monitored.
