The beautiful lobelia plant ( Lobelia × speciosa hort.) Is a hybrid of the three lobelia species Lobelia cardinalis , Lobelia siphilitica and Lobelia splendens .

The beautiful lobelia is a short-lived, perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 50 to 120 centimeters. The leaves are ovate to elliptical and measure 5 to 18 × 1.5 to 6 centimeters. They are seated, finely toothed and colored green to ruby ​​red. The flower stalks are 6 to 12 millimeters long. The crown is usually purple-violet in color, more rarely pink or scarlet, and 2 to 3 inches long. The lower corolla lobes are wider than the upper ones.

The flowering period extends from August to September.

The beautiful lobelia is widely used as an ornamental plant in parks and summer borders and as a cut flower.
