List of apple varieties

The Schöne von Wiltshire , also Wiltshire , Beauty of Wiltshire or in Bavaria White Wax Renette is a variety of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). The apple originally came from the county of Wiltshire in the south-west of England, but is now mainly found in southern Germany. It is mainly grown on orchards for the production of must, but is also suitable as a table apple for direct consumption. Even in Germany, however, it is on the red list of endangered crops .

Little is known about the origin of the apple. It has been proven since 1840.

fruit

The apple is relatively big. The fruit is irregular and blunt. It is noticeably wider than it is tall. The peel has a yellowish green, after the harvest a green, which later turns into a yellowish green. The fruit side often has slightly reddish stripes. It's a little dotted. The peel is slightly greasy. The taste is intense with a high acidity but also a high sugar content. The clear smell is striking.

The chalice is half-open. The stem is medium-long (about 16 to 25 millimeters), thick, woody and lightly wooled. The wide open core house contains numerous fertile seeds.

Cultivation

The apple is very hardy and therefore also suitable for cultivation in rough locations. The demands on the floor are also low. He is very resistant to scab and gives a regular yield. The tree grows strongly at first, later moderately strong. In commercial cultivation, a strong training cut is required. The apple is a good pollen donor for other varieties. The flowering is medium early and also very resistant to frost.
