The Schöpfebach is a brook whose headwaters lie on the western Eggberg and which flows into the Rhine near Bad Säckingen . It flowed into the northern arm of the Rhine , which was filled in in 1830, and since then has had an artificial and largely underground course in the urban area of Bad Säckingen. In 1802 and 1803 water was supplied to the mountain lake from him through an underground canal .
In order for the industrial companies to gain a foothold in the town of Säckingen more than 100 years ago, they needed water. The Heidenwuhr - Schöpfebach - Bergsee - Gewerbebach - Gießen water system provided the Säckingen industrial site with decisive advantages. The artificial runoff on the eastern bank of the mountain lake served a commercial zone that no longer exists today. The factories on the Gewerbebach partly needed the water for production, but it also generated energy. Like many rivers, the Schöpfebach was also canalized. At the instigation of the Allianz Foundation for the Protection of the Environment , it was renatured and has been free again outside the city since 1995.
