The Straubing pumping station is a listed building for flood protection on the Danube in the city of Straubing .

The pumping station is located on the northern edge of Neustadt on the right bank of the southern arm of the Danube . It was built in 1940 to ensure internal drainage of the dike hinterland in the event of a flood. The outflow of the connected receiving water Moosgraben is at low and mid water levels via a sluice forwarded east of the pumping station building as gravity passage into the Danube. In the event of high water, the sluice is closed by slides and up to three pumps convey the water through two pressure shafts into the Danube. The permissible inland water level here is 315.3  m above sea level. NN and thus 103 centimeters above mean water of the Danube at this point. For HW 100 the level of the Danube is 319.72  m above sea level. NN assumed.

Architecture and history

The two-storey solid building has a floor area of around 200 square meters with an elongated rectangular floor plan. The ground floor forms the operating level with three pump chambers, medium-voltage switchgear and transformers. The hipped roof is covered with beaver tails and exposed through dormers .

Bastion of the pumping station

The Mahlbusen comes from the construction time. The three pumps from the construction period were replaced in 1980. The total flow rate of the three pumps is currently 4.2 m³ / s with a total electrical output of 305 kW. The total flow rate is to be increased to 5.8 m³ / s through hydraulic changes and replacement of the pumps. The maximum delivery head is then 4.72 meters, the total pump output is increased to 520 kW. The existing building, which is protected as a monument, remains largely unchanged.
