The coat of arms of Borstendorf shows a chessboard with a king figure.

The chessboard is a rare common figure in heraldry .

It is always displayed in such a way that it is clearly recognizable as a game board. It is not the herald image " geschacht " or confuse similar representations. The number of fields must be reported, but not all 64 need to be shown. A border around the figure or perspective make it clear. The coat of arms of Croatia , designed as a chess field in red and white, is a heraldic image.

Of the pieces in the game of chess, only the pawn, the bishop, the king and the rook are known as pieces in heraldry. The tower, or Roch , is located in the Rochlitz coat of arms as a split figure.

The chess cross is a common cross covered with a chess pattern . The coat of arms of Schachdorf Ströbeck is a talking coat of arms .
