Loss prevention

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Loss prevention aims to prevent damage. They are intended to reduce the probability of occurrence and / or the extent of damage. It therefore includes measures during and after the occurrence of the damage. In a narrower sense, the term loss prevention refers to damage to property. In connection with personal injury, however, the term accident prevention is used.

Loss prevention is particularly practiced in the property insurance lines of "fire", "tap water" and "burglary". The term fire protection has established itself for damage prevention in the event of fire damage . There is a comprehensive set of rules for this. Burglary protection, on the other hand, serves to prevent damage caused by burglary . There is also an extensive set of rules here.

When it comes to tap water damage, loss prevention is not yet very widespread. Only in the last few years has there been increasing activity in this area. However, there is an increasing need for action, since the economic damage caused by tap water is now around three times higher than that caused by fire.

The public insurers are particularly obliged by their statutes to prevent damage. They therefore jointly maintain the Institute for Loss Prevention and Loss Research e. V. (IFS) and publish the magazine for damage prevention and damage research " schadenprisma ".
