Schadow Monument Düsseldorf
The Schadow monument is a classicist monument that was erected in honor of the painter Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow (1788–1862) on the Schadowplatz in Düsseldorf - city center , named after him . It consists of a bust that shows the honored in old age. The bust stands on a square plinth with the inscription W. von Schadow . August Wittig and Ernst Giese created the monument in 1869, and it was unveiled on June 22, 1869.
Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow was a director of the Royal Prussian Art Academy of Düsseldorf. The international reputation of the Düsseldorf School of Painting was established under his aegis .
