Shajarat al-Haya ( Arabic شجرة الحياة, DMG šaǧarat al-ḥayāh 'Tree of Life') is the name of a 400-year-old mesquite tree of the species Prosopis cineraria ( Khejri tree ) in Bahrain , which is considered a natural wonder and one of the country's main tourist attractions. The lone tree is located on the main island of the island state, about two kilometers from Jabal ad-Duchan , the highest point in the country.
It is not clear where the tree gets its water from; the nearest water point is 1.2 km away.
The tree is mentioned in the movie LA Story as the tree of life .
In 2013 there were plans to build a kind of amphitheater around the tree. Since the tree was damaged by vandalism in 2007, it has been shielded by a fence.
