action

Harris K. Telemacher has a PhD in meteorology and lives in LA. He is unhappy with his relationship with Trudi and his job. At lunch he meets the British journalist Sara McDowel, with whom he falls in love. Harris and Trudi break down their car on the way home. The car comes to a stop in a parking bay in front of a glowing traffic sign. While Harris tries to find the fault in the engine compartment, the traffic sign attracts Harris' attention with a spark. The road sign gives Harris a riddle along the way, the solution of which should help him with his problem. It is just right for him that his partner confesses to him an affair with his agent and that he can part with both of them. Harris goes back to the road sign telling him that the weather will change his life twice. There will soon be a change in his job too. Telemacher moderates a rather unconventional weather show. He pre-records a weather forecast for the weekend in which he predicts sunshine. In reality, the weekend is rainy, as a result of which Harris' boss capsizes and dismisses Harris. This is the first time the weather has changed his life, just as the Harris traffic sign predicted.

Telemacher and McDowel get closer at an event they attend together. However, they have already made commitments for the following weekend. Harris has promised 22-year-old SanDeE * to travel with her for the weekend, the same goes for Sara and her ex-husband. Both of them spend the night in the same hotel in the adjoining rooms without even knowing it and overhear the people in the adjoining room having sex with their lovers. Since both couples leave the rooms almost at the same time to go to the restaurant, a confrontation ensues.

McDowel wants to return to their home country, but the plane cannot take off due to a rapid change in the weather. McDowel sees this as a sign and drives - on the advice of the traffic sign on the motorway - to Telemacher's house, where the two are in each other's arms. Telemacher thanks the traffic sign. This is the second time the weather has changed Harris' life.

Reviews

Roger Ebert praised the portrayal of Steve Martin in the Chicago Sun-Times of February 8, 1991.

René Malgo wrote on www.filmstarts.de that the film was not profound, but could "inspire". He described the portrayal of Sarah Jessica Parker as "annoying", that of Richard E. Grant as "troubled". Overall, he gives the film an excellent rating .

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "a Shakespeare's ' A Midsummer Night 's Dream ' oriented declaration of love to the city of Los Angeles, which interprets its craziness as lovable quirks. He is "a fresh comedy with a convincing actor who has put some of his previous folly".
