Schaffermahl in Stralsund

The Schaffermahl in Stralsund is a traditional gathering of members of professional associations of boatmen in Stralsund .

The Schaffer members of the Skipper's Brotherhoods, who were entrusted with the business of the association, met at the beginning of the navigation period for a farewell dinner. The Schiffercompagnie , the association of boatmen of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund that has existed since 1488, stipulated in Article 6 of its regulations in 1699: “As often as necessity requires that two of the brotherhood should be selected and named for the office that must be necessary for Schaffer become [...]. The Schaffermahl was reintroduced in 1992 after a long break and has taken place regularly ever since. The meal traditionally consists of pike soup , labskaus and red groats .

Whereas in the past only the performers were invited, this also applies today to representatives from politics, business and culture.
