Schafflerweg Bridge

The Schafflerweg Bridge crosses the Wiener Neustädter Canal in the north of Wiener Neustadt .

history

In 1783 Franz Launeck acquired a hut pasture with 300 yokes north of Wiener Neustadt on a path that leads from Lichtenwörth to Piesting . Sheep were kept at the so-called Schafflerhof , he supplied the city's textile manufacture with wool . When the Wiener Neustädter Canal was built (1797–1803) a brick vaulted field path bridge (around 1800) was built to cross the canal.

On the initiative of the Association for the History of the Labor Movement, the bridge was restored by students from the HTL Wiener Neustadt and on September 18, 1991 a memorial plaque was unveiled.

In the street An der Hohen Brücke between the rogue colony and the Gartenstadt settlement there was a uniform brick bridge around 1800, which was dismantled in 1964 and replaced by a modern, efficient bridge.

description

The brick vaulted field path bridge was designed for horse-drawn vehicles. Under the arch of the bridge there is space for the canal and a right-hand stairway on which the barge was pulled up the canal by horse. To the north of the brick bridge there is a reinforced concrete bridge for modern motor vehicle traffic, which, with its low construction height, prevents all boat traffic on the canal. The brick bridge is used by cyclists and pedestrians on the canal cycle path.
