Sheepfold (Meeder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sheepfold is in the north of the village of Meeder in an open field at the foot of the Long Mountains . The listed building dates from the 18th century and was built between 1700 and 1750 using a rare carpentry technique.

Several authorized farmers used the community sheepfold to transfer responsibility for their animals to a shepherd. This cooperative form of organization enabled the farmers to do without their own buildings and hats on their own responsibility.

The hipped roof building in half-timbered construction has a rectangular floor plan. The historic building was in danger of collapsing. In October 2012, the owner, the municipality of Meeder, started the renovation. The work was finished in summer 2015. In the future, the sheepfold is to be managed by a traveling sheep farm.
