The shell stone from Monte Lazzo (also called Monte Lazzu ) is located north of Tiuccia , the port of Casaglione in the Corse-du-Sud department on the Mediterranean island of Corsica in France . It is an outcrop area with rows of indentations in two limestone blocks . The oval bowls are located a little below the northern summit on a 160 m high mountain above the Liamone Delta and San Giusepe Liamone Beach.

Archaeologists believe the bowls were used as multiple mortars to grind grain , but Monte Lazzo is on a mountain with a sea breeze. It may have been a place for rituals or sacrifices.

There are around 60 cup stones in mainland France . The densest concentration is with eight stones on the Île d'Yeu in the Vendée department .
