history
The complex, built as a Niederungsburg , was first mentioned in the 12th century. The name of the Schallenburg refers to the von Schall zu Bell patrician family from Cologne as the original owner. The current building was renovated in 1694. At the end of the 18th century, the main building went to the middle-class Spürck family. In 1835 Arnold Spürck sold them on. The park and farm buildings were built in the 19th century.
description
The listed two-part complex is a transverse rectangular, two-storey, five-axis, plastered brick building with two opposing, round, three-storey corner towers with a three-winged bailey made of half-timbering . Since the castle is privately owned, it cannot be visited and is separated from visitors by a fence.
