A shift light is a system that is often used in the automotive sector , especially in racing . A fast-reacting signal lamp or LED is installed in the vehicle , which lights up when a maximum speed is reached and signals to the driver that a gear change is required. This saves the driver from being distracted by looking at the rev counter.
