Shambat Bridge

The Shambat Bridge is a road bridge over the Nile between Omdurman and al-Chartum Bahri in Sudan .

The name of the bridge is derived from the Shambat district in al-Chartum Bahri.

The 1050 m long and 23.60 m wide bridge has two times two lanes and wide sidewalks.

The prestressed concrete bridge has openings 88 m wide. The foundations of their pillars were made with caissons at a depth of more than 30 m. The superstructure consists of two rectangular hollow sections of variable height and a cantilever slab and was in cantilever erected.

The bridge was built from 1963 to 1965 by the Italian company Recchi. It was the first prestressed concrete bridge built abroad by an Italian company.
