Bench and memorial plaque on the former ski jump

During the Second World War the ski jump fell into disrepair, the wooden boards and beams were used for heating. The reconstruction began in 1948, the official reopening took place on New Year's Day 1951. Since the run was quite short and could not be extended across the stream, it happened that jumpers landed in the Gelpe. In the 1950s, the hill was a regular venue for the Lower Rhine Ski Jumping Championships. In 1959 the ski jump was extended. On January 17, 1959, Paul Mehling, the chairman of the Cronenberg Ski Club at the time, set a new hill record with a height of 33.0 meters. A television team from Westdeutscher Rundfunk was on site for this jump. In the 1970s the ski jump was closed. On February 13th, 2009 a memorial plaque was inaugurated at the site of the former ski jump.
