The Scharyn National Park ( Kazakh Шарын ұлттық паркі; Russian Чарынский национальный парк Tscharynski nazionalny park ) is a national park in southeast Kazakhstan east of the city of Almaty . It is named after the Scharyn River, which has washed a deep canyon into the surrounding rock in the national park area . This is often compared to the Grand Canyon in the USA. The Scharyn Canyon is slightly smaller than this one, but similarly bizarre in shape.
