Shade tree type
In the Schattseite tree species , also shade tree species or shade-types, rich to thrive 1/10 to 1/100 of the sunlight from. In contrast to the light tree species, this enables rejuvenation in the shadows cast by larger trees or under the umbrella of old wood.
The prevailing environmental factors influence shade tolerance; it decreases with decreasing supply of nutrients and increasing age. The slowly growing shade trees include beech , yew , linden and fir trees .
Pronounced shade trees in Europe are European yew , silver fir and red beech .
The following species have low light requirement: Norway maple , sycamore , hornbeam , European ash , European holly , European hornbeam , wild cherry , wild service tree , leaved linden , elm , white elm .
