Treasure map

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A treasure map is a mostly secret site plan or a map in which a hidden, mostly buried treasure is recorded or at least information is given on how to find it.

In fact, from the golden age of piracy, only William Kidd (1645–1701) has safely passed down that he hid treasure on an island and made a treasure map for it.

The subject has been used in literature and art from ancient times to the present day. Probably the best known novel that has a treasure map on the subject is Treasure Island by Robert L. Stevenson .

It is also used in off-road games such as the popular children's game scavenger hunt . The motif of the treasure map along with the accompanying saying “The X marks the point” is also often used in films and comics, for example in the Indiana Jones series or in The Goonies .
