The Shavrow Sch-7 ( Russian Шавров Ш-7 ) was a Soviet amphibious flying boat . It was designed by Vadim Shavrov and was his last aircraft construction.

history

After the success of his first own aircraft construction, the small flying boat Sch-2 , Vadim Schawrow turned to the development of larger flying boats. This was followed by the twin-engine amphibium Sch-5 designed for up to twelve passengers , which flew for the first time in 1934, but was ultimately rejected. As a follow-up model, he designed a four-seater flying boat that was to be used in the civilian sector. The polar air fleet ( Russian Полярная Авиация ) shows interest and in December 1938 created a specification for the technical requirements for the model. Construction of the aircraft designated as Sch-7 and designed as a shoulder- wing aircraft began in February of the following year at Plant No. 240. The MG-31F engine used was splash-proof on a pylon , standing on the wing above the cabin. The use of two M-11 engines in tandem configuration was also considered, but it was ultimately decided against. The main landing gear wheels could be pulled sideways into the all-metal hull. As a special feature, the control located in front of the left seat could be folded to the right so that the aircraft could also be flown from there if necessary. The two lateral support floats were not retractable.

The factory testing of the prototype with the registration SSSR – E59 (СССР – Э59) began with the first flight on June 16, 1940 and was carried out by Fyodorov and Chwostow; then the state acceptance tests began. These were successfully completed on September 12, and towards the end of the year it was decided to put the Sch-7 into series production for use in both the polar and civil air fleets at the KARS plant in Krasnoyarsk . But before it could be realized, the German attack on the Soviet Union followed , which resulted in an immediate termination of all planning. The only Sch-7 built was used during the war, deployed from lakes and rivers, for freight and passenger transport and for reconnaissance tasks . Nothing is known about their whereabouts.
