The Scheffzental is an 8.6 hectare landscape protection area in the valley of the Beutenbach in the district of the city of Ditzingen .

Surname

The name in the Schefftzentall or tzu schefftzenwiesen is mentioned for the first time in 1424 in the Leonberger Amtslagerbuch and appears again in 1524 and 1701 ( Scheffzenthal ). In 1427, the land register of the Reichenbach priory mentions the Schepffetz field as a place name. The name perhaps refers to the term Scheffzen , a Swabian expression for the field horsetail known in the region of Scheffzenheu (sheep hay) .

Protection status

The area was established by ordinance of January 15, 1990 in accordance with Section 22, Section 58 Paragraph 3 and Section 64 Paragraph 1 No. 2 of the Act on the Protection of Nature, Maintenance in the Landscape and Recreational Provision in the Open Landscape (Nature Conservation Act - NatSchG) of October 21, 1975 by the Ludwigsburg district office under protection.

The purpose is to protect the open, near-natural valley floodplain of the Beutenbach (grassland) between Stuttgart-Hausen and Ditzingen and its harmonious landscape. The valley also serves as a retention area for the Beutenbach. The course of the brook has a near-natural woody stock with numerous pollarded willows , which are particularly worthy of protection both for landscape reasons and as a habitat for animals (cave-breeding bird species). Another protective purpose is to secure the green turning point between settlement areas in the densely populated area and the last remnants of a near-natural valley floodplain in an otherwise sprawled landscape.

By designating it as a landscape protection area, the Beutenbachtal is to be protected in the long term from disruptive interference that could adversely affect the appearance of the landscape.
