Disc collector motor

As flat commutator motor designate Modelleisenbahner the classic three-pole Märklin- round motor with spur gear, which it both as a universal motor as well as a DC motor are. The conversion between the two types of motor is carried out simply by exchanging the pole bracket. The pole yoke of the universal current motor carries a coil , the pole yoke of the direct current motor carries a permanent magnet .

The name results from the flat design of the collector .

Disc collector motors from Märklin each have a carbon brush and a round copper brush . They can be found in almost all Märklin traction vehicles that were designed up to the beginning of the 1970s.

There are basically two types of disc-collector motor, which differ primarily in their size:

  • The small disc collector motor : this motor can be found in the models of BR 23, 24, 89, E41, E10, E40 or the V60. There is only one type of armature that can be exchanged between all models equipped with this motor.
  • The large disc collector motor : this motor can be found in the models of the BR 01, 18, 44, 03.10, the E03, or the BR 216, i.e. mostly in larger locomotives. As a special feature, there are two different armature types with this motor, which differ in their pinions with either seven or eight teeth.

The Swiss manufacturer HAG also offers engines with a similar design .

Other standard motors widely used by Märklin are the drum collector motor and the C-sine motor .
