The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque ( Arabic مسجد الشيخ زايد Masjid al-Sheikh Zayid , DMG Masǧid aš-Šaiḫ Zāyid ) is a mosque in Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates . It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the third largest in the world. The sacred building is located on a 56 hectare property at the southeast end of the main island and is named after Emir Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan , a co-founder and first President of the United Arab Emirates, whose grave is on the site. The building wasofficially openedin Ramadan (September / October) 2007.

With its external dimensions of 224 by 174 meters, the mosque offers space for 40,000 worshipers. Its four minarets are 107 meters high, and the main dome above the prayer hall is 75 meters high. With a diameter of 32.2 meters, it is considered the second largest mosque dome in the world after the Camlica Mosque in Istanbul. Over 40 smaller domes were added to the edge of the compact central building. The cost of building the facility was $ 545 million. High-quality material was used for the construction, including 15 different types of marble (including Lasa marble ) and a noticeable amount of gold leaf. The mosque is also adorned with seven chandeliers imported from Germany. They are made of gold-plated brass and stainless steel and are flower-shaped with thousands of different colored Swarovski crystals. LEDs serve as the light source . The largest of the chandeliers was built by the Faustig company from Munich. With a diameter of ten meters and a height of 15 meters, it is considered the largest chandelier in the world.
