Sheikh Chalid bin Ahmad Al Chalifa ( Arabic خالد بن أحمد بن محمد آل خليفة, DMG Ḫālid b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad Āl Ḫalīfa ; * April 4, 1960 ) is a Bahraini diplomat and politician .

biography

Chalid bin Ahmad is a great-great-grandson of the Emir of Bahrain between 1868 and 1869, Ali ibn Chalifa Al Chalifa . He himself graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and gained his first political experience as a member of the campaign team of US President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election .

After returning to Bahrain , he entered the diplomatic service and was finally appointed ambassador to Great Britain in 2002 . In this role he was also accredited as ambassador to the Netherlands , Ireland and Norway between 2002 and 2005 . He was also ambassador to Sweden from 2003 to 2005 .

As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed foreign minister to the cabinet of Prime Minister Khalifa ibn Salman Al Khalifa on September 26, 2005 by King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa . He replaced the Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Hamad Al Khalifa , who had been in office since 1971, and is therefore only the country's second foreign minister since independence on August 14, 1971.
