Crown Madonna

A wooden vertex Madonna (also wood log Madonna or vertex Madonna ) is a standing representation of the Virgin Mary with or without a baby Jesus made from a wood log . A suitable log was carved for this in the shape of the Holy Virgin and then painted accordingly. Representations of other saints were also made as crown figures.

This type of saint carving was popular in earlier centuries, especially in the area of the Bavarian Forest and neighboring Bohemia .
