The Schele School is a state-approved , privately owned primary school in Berlin , which is organized as an all-day operation .

history

It traces its roots back to 1900, when the private teacher August Sodemann founded the school as a family school under the name "Sodemann'sche Higher School for Boys and Girls". For many years, its seat at that time was on Lietzenburger Strasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg . The school was called a day home school because the students were taught and looked after all day at this time. In the thirties of the last century, Baron Troost von Schele took over the sponsorship of the school, whose name it still bears today. After the Second World War , in the course of which the old schoolhouse was completely destroyed, the school moved to new quarters on Olympische Strasse in Berlin's Neu Westend . In 1970 the school was converted into an all-day elementary school and received its organizational structure that is still valid today, based on the tried and tested concept of the day home school.

structure

The Schele school today comprises grades 1 to 6, with grades 1 to 4 in two classes and classes 5 and 6 in one class. As a state-recognized, privately owned primary school, it is bound by the School Act and the curricula that apply in the State of Berlin. All-day operations are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. it is divided into a morning area and an afternoon area. Between these areas, the lunch prepared in the school's kitchen for around 150 students is eaten. The teaching, which is given in 80-minute blocks, enables the principle of rhythmic teaching and thus an interdisciplinary, project-oriented approach. The class teacher principle applies consistently. The class size is 20 students. The structural prerequisites given by its organization as an all-day school enable the school to implement a pedagogy of the unity of upbringing and education. Traditional and tried and tested, the school is committed to providing modern, child-friendly and diverse teaching options. These are complemented by a variety of activities that aim at social, emotional and practical learning.

The school’s specialty areas include:

  • Mathematics (establishment of additional logic lessons, regular participation in the kangaroo competition, organization of internal math team competitions)
  • Languages: English as a regular class from grade 1, French as a course from grades 3 to 5, Latin as a course in grade 6
  • Sports: swimming lessons for grades 1 to 6, working groups: hockey, tennis, riding, sailing

concept

The Schele School sees itself as a "house of life and learning". Every student is welcome regardless of their nationality or denomination. The comparatively low class frequency and all-day care enable the 15 teachers at this school to respond individually to the needs of the children, to encourage them according to their different abilities and then to demand more demanding performances. This means that the following conceptual and educational goals of the Schele School can also be achieved:

  • Development of student personalities who face increasing demands with self-confidence, who treat their fellow human beings with respect and tolerance, who show courage in society to make responsible decisions.
  • The pupils acquire a high degree of technical and work-related skills and are guided to a quality of education through which the successful continuation of their school career at secondary school is guaranteed after the 4th or 6th grade.

Private kindergarten

The kindergarten of the Schele school is located on a quiet street in the living area on Teufelsberg . To ensure that the children are safe there, it is separated by a large garden with a fence. There is a children's playground nearby. The private kindergarten supports children from one to six years of age. It consists of four study groups with four to twelve girls and boys. The two-year pre-school phase promotes the education and upbringing of the children. This phase is followed by the entry phase into the Schele elementary school.
