The company was founded in 1967 by Andreas Scherer, Georg Scherer and Lothar Trier . The company's extruded profiles are originally intended for the domestic wicker and small furniture industry. In 1972 orders were added from the automotive industry, which today determine the majority of the company's business.

In 1993 the company became the sole property of the Trier family. The company was named "Kunststoff-Technik Scherer & Trier". The company is led by Hartmut Trier and Martin Trier (managing partners), Peter Faulhaber and Wolfgang Feibig.
