Joke polka

The joke polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 72). The work was performed for the first time on November 28, 1849 either in the Zum Sperl dance hall or in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The Polka was one of the first compositions by Johann Strauss Sohn after the death of his father . It was premiered by the Strauss Chapel, now directed by the younger Strauss, on the occasion of the Katharinenball . Regarding the location of the premiere, there are different details on the Naxos CD description below. Accordingly, the premiere took place either in the dance hall Zum Sperlbauer or in the Sofienbad hall .
