history

Compartments with Tunwark

The elongated thatched barn from around 1790 borders the street at the gable in the direct vicinity of Schönebeck Castle . The open filling of the upper compartments of the framework made of strong, split willow branches ( Tunwark ) is remarkable . The back gable is boarded up. As an anchor barn, it is one of the oldest barns in Bremen that has been preserved in its original state.

Anchor bar barns have been erected in post construction since the Middle Ages , with the posts erected on a brick base being connected (anchored) to each other and to the outer wall by horizontal beams, the so-called anchor beams. The anchor beams also served as a support for the ceiling construction of the attic with only a low load bearing capacity. This construction was still in use for simple buildings until the end of the 19th century. The barn was believed to have been used to store crops and feed. It has been thoroughly restored.

The barn belonged to the Eibenhof , which last served as a restaurant and burned down in July 1981.
