Schiemanns yarn

Schiemanns yarn is a small rope . It usually consists of four to six yarns that are twisted in an S twist (twisted to the left). It is between three and six millimeters thick. The Schiemannsgarn is tarred, it is rarely used without tar. The strength depends on the intended use. It is used to wrap ( clover ) the splice points of wire rope and standing goods (shrouds, stages, etc.). Alternatively, with a Hüsing this was gekleedert -rope with refreshment soaked.
