Ship operations engineering officer

The ship operating technology officer (SBO) is a section head for ship operating technology and ship safety technology on board a warship of the German Navy . In the past, the post was also known as the ship safety officer (SSO). He is subordinate to the main section head of main section 200 ( ship technology ), the ship's engineering officer (STO) and under disciplinary law to the first officer of the ship.

According to the strength and equipment certification (StAN), officers in the rank of first lieutenant in the sea to captain lieutenant in the military service are usually required to fill the post . The ship operations technology officer also regularly takes on tasks as watch head ship technology (WST) at sea and in port.

Subordinate to him are the ship's technical masters as well as several NCOs and crews .
