Sign gantry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sign bridge (also called signpost bridge or traffic sign bridge, VZB for short ) is part of the road equipment and serves as a carrier system for signposting or variable message signs . It is mainly used on motorways or multi-lane inner - city roads and enables safe traffic control there.

A sign gantry consists of a transom / stem construction (steel or aluminum box girder , more rarely also made of concrete ), which is attached to foundations on the side of the roadway and, if necessary, equipped with an impact base .

In addition to the bridge variant, a one-sided installation (called a jib or cantilever arm ) is also possible. In any case, due to the large area exposed to wind, a static calculation must prove the stability of the construction.
