The Schindelkogelschacht ( cadastral number 1831/12 ) is a shaft cave north of the Bürgeralpe near Mariazell .
location
The Schindelkogel is located east-southeast of the village of Fadental in Styria in the Türnitz Alps . The narrow entry is located on a flattening west of the southeast ridge of the 1219 m high Schindelkogel.
description
With a length of 104 m and a depth of −32 m, the Schindelkogelschacht is the second largest cave of the subgroup 1831 - Bürgeralpe after the 375 m long Hohlenstein cave (cadastral number: 1831/1). The cave was not found until the early 1990s. The small, overgrown entrance leads into a 13 m deep shaft, at the bottom of which, beneath wedged tree trunks, is a 4 m high room with a sloping floor. Here two narrow clefts branch off, the first ends after 7 m, at the end of the second cleft you can climb to reach an extension with small stalactite formations . The main continuation continues steeply downwards, initially low, then passages of up to 15 m are reached. A 5 m high chimney branches off here with a short continuation and another 8 m high chimney, which leads to a higher floor. The main chasm leads 2 m upwards and soon afterwards it becomes impossible to sleep. The cave, located in the Wetterstein limestone, extends from the entrance a total of 30 m to the southwest.
