The Fadental is a valley and a small town on the border between southern Mostviertel and Mariazellerland in Lower Austria and belongs to the municipality of St. Aegyd am Neuwalde in the Lilienfeld district .

geography

The Fadental is very remote 15 kilometers west of St. Aegyd and 6½ kilometers northeast of Mariazell in the southern Türnitz Alps . It is drained by the Black Walster over the Salza to the Enns and forms its 1 km long source course from the Lärchalm to the confluence of the Lauterbach . To the north lies the Große Sulzberg  ( 1400  m above sea level ), to the south the small mountains on Hubertussee (Schlagkogel, Sonnwendkogel, Rehkogel) , which are only up to 1000 m high .

The place Fadental is located at around 900  m above sea level. A. Height directly on the state border, which runs in the stream. It has a dozen buildings. To the parish of St. Aegyd it forms the westernmost place and an orographic exclave. It can only be reached on a branch road from the small road from Ulreichsberg over the Hubertussee into the Halltal . The Lärchalm also forms the saddle to the Otterbach . Due to its remote location, the place also has a Styrian postcode (8 ...).

History and infrastructure

Athletes from different disciplines like to hold their training camps here in the Türnitz Alps. The valley is used by athletes for mountain biking and hiking in summer and was previously used for cross-country skiing in winter , but there are no longer any trails.

The Mariazellerweg  (here 06B) Ottenbach - Lauterbach and further to Josefsberg (or into the Annarotte ), east-west of the Lower Austrian Landesrundwanderweg  (NLW), the border Ottenbach - Mühlgraben to Friedenstein , and the Waldmarkweg  (622) from Hubertussee and then lead as long-distance hiking trails through the Schindelgraben to Mitterbach am Erlaufsee .
