Josef Schippers II, called Jupp

Schippers & van der Ville is the name of a former showman company that shaped the German fairs and festivals with its rides in the period between the world wars . Otto Ernst Wilhelm van der Ville and Josef Schippers were still regarded as "kings among German showmen" in the 1950s.

Josef Schippers, one of the company's founders, was a fair attraction as the "greatest guard soldier of all time" (2.12 m, with helmet 2.39 m). Together with Otto van der Ville, he initially ran a small theater. Van der Ville began his showman career as a rope runner and sword swallower. From 1923 both built and repaired their rides in their own factory in Altona . They kept developing new models, so in 1929 a mountain railway was built in Altona, which was then the largest transportable ride in the world.

Josef Schippers died in 1948, his son, Josef Schippers II, took over the position alongside Otto van der Ville. Otto van der Ville died on December 23, 1956. In 1967 the Schippers & van der Ville company dissolved. Joseph Schippers II died in 1984. The company's newspaper clippings are kept in the Hamburg State Archives .
