The battle of Hysiai took place in 417/416 BC. Between Sparta and Argos .
After the defeat in the First Battle of Mantineia in 418 BC. The Argives drove away the oligarchs who were friendly to Sparta . These fled to Phleius . The construction of a wall that would connect Argos to the sea began, similar to the wall of Themistocles in Athens .
The Spartan King Agis II gathered an army , reached Argos before the wall could be completed, and destroyed it. Then he went against the frontier fortress Hysiai , conquered and destroyed it and had the free Argives executed. Then he withdrew again. In response, the Argives marched against Phleius and devastated the land.
